The term mash-up has been used amongs dj:s when two or more songs are layered together to a new entity. Recently the term has started to be used within the arts describing when artists or curators are mixing material by other authors to something new. It can be described as a deconstruction of information to small parts mixed together to build up something completely new. The method is certainly a product of the information society, where we are confronted to massive amounts of information all the time and to fragmentize it is a way to manage it.
At Splintermind we were always working close to the experimental music scene, DJ:s and VJ:s and we weren’t afraid of mixing pop and fine culture. In the opposite – this mix was normally what we were looking for, pushing the limits.
